We're thrilled to share that Brian has officially qualified as a Certified Passive House Consultant!

Brian has long been passionate about Passivhaus and Enerphit design. His interest was further ignited in 2022 when we collaborated on an Enerphit project in Findhorn for a London-based architect. Working alongside a Certified Passive House Designer through the Building Warrant stage proved to be a pivotal experience.

Driven by this, Brian undertook intensive Passivhaus training with MosArt Ltd earlier this year. Following a demanding examination administered by the German Passive House Institute, he successfully achieved this prestigious qualification.

Passivhaus, or Passive House, is a building standard focused on achieving extremely low energy consumption, primarily through well insulated construction and airtightness. It aims to minimise heating needs by reducing heat loss and utilising passive gains like solar heat. A Passivhaus building typically relies on a heat recovery ventilation system to maintain air quality without excessive energy use.  If you are interested in finding out more information Both the Passive House Institute and the Passivhaus Trust UK have a wealth of information on their websites.

We are incredibly enthusiastic about this new expertise within our practice particularly as the Scottish Building Standards propose to align more closely with Passivhaus principles.  We also aim to apply these principles to the design of our own family Passivhaus, deepening our understanding of the process.
Furthermore, we would be delighted to hear from anyone interested in exploring the possibilities of building a Passivhaus, so please do get in touch
